KITABU BUK PROJECT AT TUBUR PRIMARY SCHOOL- SOROTI DISTRICT.

Tubur Primary School, established in 1979 as a pilot school, was officially taken over by the
government in 1981. It was founded to provide education to children within the parish, as it was
the only school in the area at the time. Today, the school serves 837 students—424 boys and 418
girls—though its total enrollment stands at 950.

A donation event was held at the school by the Kitabu Buk Project, bringing together key
education officials, including Mildred I., Inspector of Schools; Egonyo Paul, Education Officer
in charge of Special Needs, Soroti; and Mr. Oyede James, District Education Officer (DEO),
Soroti. The school administration was represented by Headteacher Emedu Richard, Chairman
SMC Ivan Okello, and Chairperson PTA Okot Robert. The event was an opportunity to assess
the school’s needs, provide essential supplies, and encourage students in their academic journey.

Despite its long history and growing student population, Tubur Primary School faces several
challenges, including a shortage of pens, books, and other learning materials, limited access to
physical exercise balls for sports and recreation, a need for sanitary pads to support girls’
education, and a small kitchen, which limits the school’s capacity to provide meals.
To support the students and address some of these challenges, the Kitabu Buk Project donated
102 textbooks from the new curriculum, 95 reader series and PLE revision books, five cartons of
Always sanitary pads along with 630 individual pads, 288 exercise books, 120 pencils, and 100
pens. These materials were aimed at enhancing learning, promoting literacy, and ensuring that
girls can attend school with dignity and confidence.

During the event, students were encouraged to listen to their teachers, pay attention in class, and
work hard to achieve their goals. When asked why they come to school, many expressed their
desire to study and become successful in life. A representative of the DEO expressed gratitude to
the Kitabu team for their support and generosity. He emphasized the importance of education
and urged students to remain committed to their studies. Additionally, he addressed issues of
school attendance, reminding parents of their responsibility to ensure their children receive an
education. He highlighted that he continues to pursue his own education and stressed that he acts
against parents who fail to send their children to school.

Acknowledgment was also given to the School Management Committee (SMC) and the Parent-
Teacher Association (PTA) for their continued dedication and sacrifices in running the school.
He further encouraged students to maintain good personal hygiene, including regular bathing, as
part of their overall well-being.

The donation event reinforced the power of collective effort in supporting education and
ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
