History
The word Kitabu is a Kiswahili dialect for book and Buk is a Luo dialect for book hence the name Kitabu-Buk Project. The project was started by A world at school Global Youth Ambassador, Brownie Ebal and Ameso Angela, a Social Worker on 15th August, 2014. This idea was inspired by the Youth Assembly at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, conference, 6th-8th August, 2014, where the young ambassador got to interact with youths of about 15- 30 years who were doing amazing things in their community. As a Youth Ambassador, using the Advocacy tool kit, they are to initiate projects in their communities that address societal needs specifically in the area of education.
This is explained in great detail in this published article on the A world at school website- http://www.aworldatschool.org/global-youth-ambassadors/entry/Uganda-Global-youth-ambassador-on-youth-assembly-at-UN
The Project started in the pilot disadvantaged community of Kirinya where we donated our first collection of 76 books, 9 school charts, two news-papers and a ream of paper to St Joseph’s Primary school Kirinya.
