KITABU-BUK PROJECT AT PAIDHA SECONDARY SCHOOL

Paidha Secondary School, located in Paidha town, Paidha district, was established in 1992 by the Catholic Church. Over the years, it has grown to accommodate 830 students, including 150 candidates. The student body is divided between 114 students in O’level and 30 in A’level. Despite its growth, the school faces several challenges, including inadequate classrooms and laboratory equipment. With only 10 classroom blocks, the school struggles with a student-to-book ratio of 1:6, highlighting the need for additional textbooks and resources.

On 1st August 2024, a significant donation event took place at Paidha Secondary School, organized by Kitabu. The event was marked by the presence of the guest of honor, the Chairman of the PTA, and board members of Paidha Secondary School, who expressed their profound gratitude for the support provided. The donation included 250 copies of new curriculum textbooks, 200 pieces of sanitary pads, 2 cartons of pens, learning charts, chalk which were warmly welcomed by the school community. The headteacher, Onjom Raphael, along with the head boy, recognized and appreciated the Kitabu leaders for their efforts. They also acknowledged the importance of not only the textbooks and other donations but also advocacy toolkit where Kitabu-Buk Project team engaged the students in a learning session encouraging them to stay in school, work harder and identify and have role models whom they copy after.

The school’s current headteacher and other officials praised Kitabu for their contributions, emphasizing the impact of these resources on their educational environment. They expressed hope for continued support from Kitabu and other NGOs, particularly in lobbying for the construction of a library, which the school currently lacks.

The event underscored the importance of community support in addressing educational challenges and highlighted the ongoing need for resources to enhance the learning experience at Paidha Secondary School.
